Save the pups

Mikey & Me Dog Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in Chelsea, Mi. Their mission is to pull homeless dogs from city shelters and place them into safe and loving family homes and to help families in need keep the dogs they already have. Mikey & Me was born from Dan DePew and is named after his dog Mikey, whom he lost in 2009. Based in an old repurposed dairy barn, Dan installed comfortable and spacious kennels where he  provides free foster care for abused, neglected or otherwise homeless dogs for as long as it takes the local rescue groups to find their forever homes.

In 2025, they kicked off the Mikey & Me Family Assistance Program (FAP) with the goal of helping families keep the pets they already have out of the shelters due to high care costs. In addition to the family assistance agencies they are working with, if you or someone you know is experiencing economic difficulties that puts their pet ownership at risk, Mikey & Me can help with:

     - Pet Food

     - Annual Tests & Vaccinations

     - Spay/Neuter Services

     - Medication, etc.

They also kicked off the Mikey & Me Loan Closet with the goal of helping families acquire temporary use of durable medical equipment for their dogs.

     - Wheelchairs Small, Medium, XL

     - Folding ramps

     - Portable Steps

     - Lifting Belts and Lifting Harnesses

     - Crates (when available)

     - Gates

     - Whelping Box

     - Other supplies needed by the families we assist

 

Dan and his volunteers provide food, water, long walks, social engagement, and plenty of love to these dogs while they are in his care, all in Mikey's name.
